The Spanish program at St. Mary’s seeks to introduce all students to the Spanish language through interactive skits, dialogues and language games that focus on useful set phrases, expressions and vocabulary. The primary focus of our Spanish program is on developing speaking and listening skills, with an emphasis on conversational Spanish. In addition to speaking and listening skills, fourth through sixth graders also work on developing reading and writing skills. A key goal of the Spanish program is that all students learn about six to ten new words each lesson; each Spanish class gives students the opportunity to build their Spanish level bit by bit. Our hope is that students at St. Mary’s will feel both comfortable hearing Spanish and confident speaking it. In addition to language skills, students will also learn about the cultures of the Spanish speaking world.
